Welcome, Nikos Moustakas

We are delighted to welcome Nikos Moustakas as a new PhD student in the group. Nikos will work on the Einstein Foundation Berlin-funded project BacDefiant, helping us dissect bacterial anti-phage immunity at single-cell resolution. Warm welcome to the team — we look forward to the science ahead.

Grant

BacDefiant receives funding

We are excited to share that the Einstein Foundation Berlin is funding the project BacDefiant with €1.4M over four years. Within BacDefiant, we aim to dissect bacterial immunity against bacteriophages in real time. By combining advanced microscopy with genetic engineering, we will monitor bacterial defence systems at single-cell resolution. This support enables the launch of an independent research program on microbial immune networks.

Jobs

BacDefiant open positions

We are looking for highly motivated PhD and postdoctoral researchers to join our newly established research team at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Our research explores how bacteria detect and respond to bacteriophage infection. Using live-cell imaging, molecular genetics, and quantitative approaches, we aim to understand the organization and dynamics of bacterial defence pathways at the single-cell level. The positions are part of the Einstein Foundation Berlin-funded project BacDefiant. More details here.
